J2′s defeat Cork Transport in Muskerry Cup

Match Report by Dolphin Minor Reporter!

On Sunday, 11th Sept, Dolphin J2s headed to the Cornfield to meet Transport in the Muskerry Cup.

Dolphin J2s had a lot of work to do and points to prove having come from a big loss the previous week. But hard work and proving points seemed to be the motivation for what was to come.
The home side started strong and attacked with gusto forcing Dolphin to settle into their defensive system early. Possession ebbed between the teams for the first 10mins until Dolphin settled and looked to attack the spaces and always edge forward.

The first score of the game came from backrow, Killian Walsh, who took advantage of a blindside gap inside the 22 metre line. Managing to outrun a winger and handing off another defender, he ploughed his way over the line to put Dolphin on the score board. Score Transport 0 Dolphin 5. The second score of the game came from yet another backrow, Tim Cotter who was rewarded with a try after excellent support play out wide, initially involved in hands out to the winger and then looked for the offload and the gap. Centre Martin Aherne stepped up to slot it between the posts, adding 2 valuable points to bring the score to 12-0 to the travelling side.

While Dolphin played well collectively, strong ball carriers like James Murphy (hooker), Trevor O Sullivan (backrow), Aidan Uniake (outhalf) worked well in leading the charge and getting the ‘go-forward’ momentum. Both Roger Bevan (scrumhalf) and Mark Long (winger) broke through the defence on numerous occasions.

Overall a positive display from the Dolphin side considering the strength and determination of a very physical Transport side.

Training resumes on Tuesday & Thursday @ 7pm at Musgrave Park – New players always welcome!
