Dolphin XV V UL Bohemian RFC
By Aoife O’ Callaghan

As the sun shone down on yet another beautiful day in Musgrave Park, Dolphin took on UL Bohs in the curtain
closer of this years AIL season. With near perfect conditions the home side were hoping to bounce back after
losing to Rainey Old Boys 18-10 up north the weekend before.

Leading the charge on the day was the newest member of the 100 Club Johnny Leahy who earned his 100 th AIL
cap the week before.
Play wasn’t long underway when Dolphin got their first points on the board as captain Kevin Allen crashed over
in the 8 th minute. A second try from Dave O’ Mahony soon followed and with just 15 minutes on the clock the
home side were leading 12-0.

It wasn’t until the 20 th minute that Bohs got their first score of the day but this didn’t phase Dolphin as they
retaliated with yet another try this time from flanker Cian Fitzgerald. The conversion followed from the golden
boot of Daryl Foley. Running into the sheds at half-time Dolphin lead 19-7.

Bohs came back fighting in the second half but our boys stood the test and held well in defence. The next score
in the game was not until the closing stages when UL crashed over the white wash for just the second time. With
just under 10 minutes remaining the score-line stood at 19-14.
A penalty from Daryl Foley shortly followed for what we thought would be the final play of the game but after a
quick kick off Bohs found themselves crashing over once more.

As the refs whistle went for the final time this season the home side were victorious once again with a score-line
of 22-19. Narrowly missing out on the bonus point Dolphin found themselves finishing 8 th in this years Division
2A, just one point behind their Limerick counterparts.
It was a season of highs and lows for Brian Scott and his men but they can hold their heads high after the quality
display we saw last Saturday. The future is certainly bright for this group.
Let the countdown to next season commence!
