AIL  Old Crescent 14  Dolphin 15

With Blackrock College losing on Friday night, Dolphin knew that victory over Old Crescent would confirm their Division 2A status for next season. They got an ideal start with winger Timmy Phelan scoring the opening try after eight minutes.

As the home side settled into the game they put significant pressure on the Dolphin scrum and were rewarded with a penalty try. They followed this up with a converted try to increase the lead to 14-5, Daryl Foley reduced the gap with a penalty.

Dolphin had a lot of defending to do in the 2nd half, however, it took until the 76th minute before there was a score and it went Dolphin’s way. A very nice off load from hooker Dave Byrne to Alan O’Sullivan put the winger in for a try in the corner. That left Daryl Foley a difficult conversion for the win, a true captain took the responsibility and up went the assistants flags, 15-14 , status confirmed with two games to go.

Centre Will Hanley, a former Old Crescent captain was marking his first cousin on Saturday, having seen Dolphin safe, he will not be available for the remaining games as he prepares to welcome his twins home from hospital. Congratulations Will.
