It was not an ideal start to the first AIL fixture in 14 months. A couple of withdrawals before the game and a number of changes had to be made in the backline. There was a familiar ring to the names of the side that took the field, 12/15 of the starting team and 4/5 of the replacements had played AIL for Dolphin before.

Brian Scott had his charges humming and very quickly Daryl Foley had Dolphin in a 3-0 lead with a penalty. UL Bohemians equalised after 14 mins. Dolphin were back in the lead just two minutes later when debutant, No 8 Brian O’ Mahony scored a try which Daryl  Foley converted and five minutes before half time Harry Byrne scored a 2nd try for the hosts to reduce the lead to 6-10.

Rob Reardon scored a well worked try which was again converted by Daryl Foley to put a little daylight between the sides 6-17. The final score came from a 2nd Foley penalty and the last quarter was scoreless.

Coach Brian Scott was very pleased with the performance, ” it was a Strong Team performance, particularly in defense and it gives us a good marker for the rest of our season and plenty to work on also.”

Next Saturday Dolphin are in action in Musgrave Park in the first home game v Rainey Old Boys
