An epic game, entertaining and with high levels of skill, an ending that did not justify the fantastic efforts of the Carrigaline-Dolphin side. The 2nd half seemed to go on forever, the clock showing that the game has just gone into the 9th minute of additional time when Bantry Bay crossed for the all important try.

Bantry had the first scoring opportunity but the Irish squad member Dylan Hicks was wide with a penalty. The first score of the game was a try from the Carrigaline-Dolphin scrum half Chris Callinan, Daire O’Callaghan could not make the conversion into the wind.

A vital 50:22 set up the opening Bantry Bay try, 10 mins later, Munster Interprovincial centre Michael O’Donovan score the West Cork sides 2nd try which Hicks converted giving them a 14-5 lead.

In the opening minutes of the 2nd half, Carrigaline- Dolphin reduced the gap to 14-10 through a Ciarán O’Dubhgáin try. They thought they had the lead minutes later, Darragh Buckley put a low bouncing ball through, it bounced past a defender. When he gathered it, he was tackled by Fionn Herlihy, who put him to ground on the 5m. He got up off the Bantry player who placed the ball back and picked the ball and dived over the line. To the dismay of  the large Carrigaline Dolphin support, the referee ruled it to be in from the side.

Carrigaline -Dolphin did get ahead with a Daire O’Callaghan try which he converted himself (17-14) Then the clock watching began. The Carrigaline-Dolphin supporters were watching the clock which was not stopping for injuries. The referee kept updating the players on  amount of time left, time was up but Carrigaline Dolphin had been penalised and the referee had to play it out until the next non penalty infringement, but Bantry Bay scored the all important try to take the Cup by a score of 19-17.

The lads must pick themselves up as they have a turnaround time of just 6 days for the South Munster Play offs v Bandon. They deserve to progress in the South Munster League + Cup and hopefully they will see silverware they so richly deserve.
