John Fitzgerald led his team out for the 32nd time, but the others gave him a 10 second start to recognise his 100th Dolphin AIL appearance.

John joined Dolphin in 2013 making the decision to concentrate on rugby, having previously played for the Cork Minor Hurlers.

His leadership qualities were recognised immediately and in his 2nd season became Club Captain, and again two years later. This season he became the first player in nearly 100 years to captain the club for three seasons.

His on field captaincy in 2014-15 was delayed until 3rd January because of injury. Unfortunately in 2016-17 he was once again restricted to just 9 appearances.

Covid caused the cancellation of five  games in the truncated 2019-20 season and three seasons either  with Old Wesley or in Canada did not help either.

So qualifying for the Play Off final gave John the opportunity to reach the 100 figure this season, the 13th player to do so, none more deserving than John Fitzgerald.
