Moving to Adult Rugby and Looking for a Club to Look After You?
Dolphin were featuring strongly in Division 1A between 2010-2012, with a proven policy of selecting U20 players for AIL games. In 2011/12 a total of 12 U20 players made 70 AIL Starts for Dolphin between them.
The likes of Niall & Rory Scannell, Cian Bohane & Ryan Murphy all played AIL for Dolphin in their first year out of school and earned places in the Munster Academy for the following season.
Central to this club policy was the then Senior Coach and present forwards Coach, Steve Ford.
If you have ambitions as a rugby player, then Dolphin RFC could be the club for you. Playing AIL for even one season will give you more profile than playing U20 or J1. Many school leavers join clubs and rarely get an opportunity at AIL or indeed at U20 as they may already have many quality players in their chosen position.
Dolphin have a very good U20 set up. Last season they finished in the Top 4 of the Munster U20 (Donal Walsh Trophy) and alongside UCC, Shannon & Garryowen qualified for the Fraser McMuller Cup.
They are looking to build on this performance and are welcoming new U20 (and potentially Senior) players. The U20’s are already in their second week of pre season training, which happens at 6.30pm every Tues & Thursday in Musgrave Park. They will train alongside the Senior side, many who are already out before they formally start themselves.
