Weekend Round Up 02.12.2018

First into action last weekend was the J2’s, they had a very good away league victory by 18-14 over Bandon on Friday night.

Both the U20.5’s and the Seniors were in action at 2.30 on Saturday, due to the weather conditions the U20.5’s game was moved to Mahon. Due to numerous injuries to key players and work commitments Dolphin lined out without substitutes. Dolphin had the better start and were soon 5-0 up against Bruff through a Scott Rochford try. Bruff settled into the game and also scored an unconverted try. After about 25 mins Dolphin had a triple blow, a yellow card, reduced to 13 as a player was forced off through injury and not replaced and thirdly, a 2nd Bruff try leaving the score 5-10 at the break.

With a numerical advantage and fresh legs Bruff were causing problems for Dolphin, however the Dolphin defence stood firm. They refused to give up and kept Bruff to one score in 30 mins, however another couple of tries in the final minutes gave Bruff a 29-5 win.

Back in Musgrave Park, it was 7th v 9th, and thats the way it finished 7th & 9th, the positions having reversed. For the 3rd home game in a row Dolphin scored 3 tries- from Alan O’Sullivan (above) Conor Flanagan and Rob Readon. The game was a close affair, just 3 points in it at halftime with Dolphin leading 13-10 before Blackrock College levelled the score. Dolphin made it 20-13 following Dary Foley’s conversion (in addition to an earlier penalty). Blackrock College narrowed the gap to 20-16 with a further penalty but Dolphin held on for the victory.

Dolphin have two games left in the first half of the season, away next Saturday to 5th placed UL Bohemians before a home game on Sat 15th December v 4th placed Queens University  (pre match lunch with guest speaker Trevor Ringland)
