The Dolphin coaches made many changes to the team that beat Clonmel, but did not expect to call on the bench as early as the 5th minute when full back came off worst trying to stop a try. His team mates ran to his aid but thankfully he was soon sitting up and walked off under his own steam.

Shannon had the coverted try and two penaties and an unconverted try put Shannon 18-0 ahead at the break. Dolphin did have their opportunities in the opening half, they will be disappointed not to score  when they had Shannon on the ropes with three successive penalties in the the 22.

Another try and penalty gave Shannon a comfortable lead when a Dolphin attack gave them a 5m scrum. The scrum which worked well all day, despite the rolling subs were very impressive in driving Shannon back to their line before the referee ran to the posts.

Shannon who were worthy winners picked up a further two tries in the closing stages.
