For the first time there were three Tipperary sides in the Munster Senior Cup, we wish Clonmel the best of luck in this their first season in the AIL.

Dolphin had the better start and put the visitors under pressure, however the defence stood firm, however, an infringement close to the line saw Clonmel lose their tight head to the sin bin. Dolphin elected for a scrum and with the space created by having put eight into the scrum, winger Alan O’Sullivan easily crossed in the corner after 13 mins.

Clonmel fought back, despite being a man down and narrowed the Dolphin lead to 5-3 with a penalty.

Dolphin were awarded a penalty close to the posts and elected to kick for the corner, their endeavour was rewarded with a try credited to hooker Dave Byrne, converted by Daryl Foley.

Johnny Leahy celebrated his return by scoring the 3rd try under the posts which Foley also converted. Exactly how far he had to run is trending on Twitter, started at 2 metres, it’s now well over 22 and rising.

There was one unusual incident before half time, Dolphin No 8 John Fitzgerald had a footwear malfunction, one boot completely ripped so he had to go off to find a replacement. The “Boot Sub” was debutant Craig O’Herlihy who made a strong break during his cameo performance(he did come on as a permanent replacement later.

The new boots were a hit with John Fitzgerald who returned after half time to score a try almost immediately, converted by Ryan O’Herlihy.

Strangely enough this was the final acore of the game, despite good play by both sides, Dolphin being help up over the line on more than one ocassion.

Dolphin will meet Shannon at Home next Saturday in the next round.
